Please vote NO on Washington State Initiative 985!
The ballot title is misleading--I-985's
out-dated,
one-size-fits-all approach will increase traffic congestion in more places than
it will decrease it. It will increase our state budget deficit, while making our roads and highways less safe. It takes money from
rural areas of the state to be spent in urban areas. It also jeopardizes getting a new 520 bridge, and reduces the amount of
federal transportation funding we receive. Finally, it imposes a state-wide definition of the end of the evening rush hour
as being 6 pm--as someone who has spent too many years commuting between Seattle and Redmond, I know all too well that
the 520 rush hour lasts later than 6 pm, and I imagine there are other places that are the same.
Let's move forward with intelligent, modern, case-by-case traffic solutions, and say NO to I-985 and it's backward, low-tech,
one-solution-for-all-problems approach.
I encourage you to vist the www.no985.org website to get more information and to volunteer to fight against this
ill-conceived boondoggle.
